More About This Tutor...

I tutored middle school and high school students in math when I was in a high school, specifically algebra I and II, as well as SAT prep. In college, I helped students in calculus, biology, and statistics, as these are the primary focus of my undergraduate degree. I was also a Resident Advisor for 3 years, which lent itself to helping students with coursework as well as college life. Finally, in Michigan, I tutored master's level students in their statistics courses, both individually and in study groups.

Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Elizabeth City State University, I pursued an education in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics. I have gained experience in the these two fields in which I excel in. I have had experience tutoring young children at my church(math), as well as helping other peers during my tenure at Elizabeth City State University. Most of my tutoring came in the field of mathematics.
My teaching style is one in which I believe I can find the success of all students. I believe that each student has their own way of learning, whether it be hands on, visual, or by repetition of hearing. I like to interact with my students to pull forth their potential in which they may not see in themselves. I strive for excellence in everything I do, and I believe if I can make a difference in at least one child's life that it will be worthwhile.

I have a natural passion for educating youth of all ages and find joy in helping them succeed. No child is unreachable when it comes to connecting with them. The only true difficulty may be finding their learning style. Teaching is easy when you know your audience. Our country has put our youth in a state of desperation with regard to their level of education, desire to obtain higher levels of education, and the ability to compete internationally. I want to be a part of the solution in reaching our youth and reassuring them that they can still be and achieve anything they seek.
Education is the central focus of my everyday life. I have obtained a BS in Management-Health Care/HR and 5 Associate degrees in Business Administration, Administrative Office Technology, Medical Office Technology, Legal Secretary, and College Transfer. I believe that a solid education is something every child should have. All children learn in their own way. It is the responsibility of the teacher and parents to determine the way of learning that is most beneficial to the child. It is also the job of the teacher and parents to set their child up for success by helping them gain the knowledge they need. Children should feel they are in a safe environment as they learn. I am dedicated to helping students reach their potential and to teaching them the joy of learning.
Helping others learn has always been a joy of mine. I have a BS degree in Elementary Education. I also hold a current Professional Teaching License. I am certified to teach kindergarten through eighth grade and highly qualified for kindergarten through sixth grade. I also have the experience of being a classroom teacher for three years.

More About This Tutor...

As a graduate of the Air Force Academy and Harvard Business School, I know what it takes to achieve excellence in education. I have earned advanced degrees in Engineering and Business. My love of teaching and coaching brought me back to the Air Force Academy to coach and tutor college athletes in math, science, English, and French. I also have extensive writing and speaking experience and have helped many students with college essays and applications.
My teaching style adapts to each individual I work with. I believe that one of the most important things to helping anyone learn is to instill in them the confidence that they can be successful. I believe that there are lots of different ways to learn, and I like helping people figure out what works for them. If someone wants to be successful and is willing to put in the work, I will find a way to help them achieve their goals.

I enjoy teaching children and young adults, and seeing their confidence grow as they learn new things. One of my biggest pleasures is helping to turn that proverbial light bulb on … sharing that moment when someone understands a concept or a technique that they have been struggling to grasp. One of my strengths as a tutor is my interpersonal skills. I am patient, easy going, and understanding. I can connect and communicate with the student in a unique way which fosters a successful learning experience.
My Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science was an excellent foundation for a career in Information Technology at IBM. As a programmer, I pursued new technologies to learn about and implement, and a role of team leader enabled me to mentor and teach others about technology. Teaching is my passion I enjoy seeing the end result, when the student sees what they have accomplished. That is my reward. I understand that people in general usually fall into 1 or more of these learning styles: Visual/Verbal, Visual/ Nonverbal, Tactile/Kinesthetc, or Auditory/Verbal. I personally use the style that best suits my student and work from that point. However, I am very enthusiastic and the passion is just so exhuberant through my teaching that it becomes contagious to the student that is learning.
I earned a degree in Biology, which has fully equipped me for tutoring to children who have difficulties in any subject, but especially science. By being a Biology major I was exposed to all types of seminars, scientific research, labs and other various types of learning implements that have been beneficial in my teaching practices. In the past two years I have privately ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I began teaching at the University of Florida (where I earned an MA) as a Teaching Assistant for large lecture courses. I did have my own students whom I interacted with in a more personal environment. I taught philosophy there. Before this, I earned my BA in English and Philosophy, so I have substantial experience with not only philosophy but also literature. In working with students over these four years and doing my own research, I have become very familiar with proper grammatical form and what makes writing good. In addition to being a Teaching Assistant, I was a philosophy tutor as well. More recently I taught English to students and adults in Madagascar with the Peace Corps. This has given me good experience teaching English as a second language. Thus, I am comfortable tutoring Philosophy, English, Writing, Reading and English as a second language.
I try to be as prepared as ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a staff accountant for a large, global corporation (sales revenue approx. $250 million/yr) I have very much experience in all areas of finance and accounting. I specialize in journal entry writing and reconciliations. I reconcile both bank account statements and account balances with my master bank reconciliation having approximately $40 million debits and credits monthly.
I love teaching and showing people how easy accounting can be and how much it helps you in real life situations. Most students get overwhelmed easily with double entry accrual accounting. I find it best to relate the material directly to the students personal life purchase and income habits. This way they can have a hands on approach and hopefully find the rules easy and helpful in daily financial situations.

A Little Bit About Me...

I earned a bachelor degree in Mathematics. During my undergraduate study, I was a teacher's assistance in statistics, where I availed myself to students that needed help with the class. I also tutored in Algebra 2. As a teacher, I volunteer my time after school to work with students that are having difficulties with their math assignments.
My metaphysical beliefs as a teacher is that you are presented with the opportunity to reach many lives and impact students whether they know it or not. I believe that all children have the potential to become effective leaders in the community. Although the learning style of students may differ, everyone is capable of learning. My job is to create an atmosphere that is conducive for every learner. In order to create an effective learning environment in the classroom, teachers need to be border crossers. More About This Tutor...

When I approach a student I've never worked with, my first priority is to make them feel comfortable by letting them see that I am a very nice, friendly, and compassionate person that they might like to have as a friend. Next I try to get them to tell me about themselves in some way (what they've been working on, their favorite subjects) to try to encourage them to speak freely with me about what they're thinking. Then, after personal rapport is established, I begin my academic approach to tutoring by finding out how they think based on their interests or common themes, and I try to connect the material to these things. Children have trouble learning, often because the addressed concepts don't relate to their lives. I strive to connect the material to them, demonstrate its influence on their interests, and allow them to greet the academic engagement as some sort of useful tool, not a ... read more
