A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies, depending on what the individual student needs, but it is always driven by an enthusiasm and verve for education (particularly in science) that I have been told is infectious (not a great thing to say to a biologist, but it's the thought that counts). Learning is most effective when the learner understands the importance of the material to their interests and the world around them. As such, one of my priorities when teaching is finding the relevance of the subject to the student and examining the concepts in the student's context. I tend to shy away from rote memorization, preferring active learning techniques and exercises that develop critical thinking skills, but I am flexible, depending on the student's abilities and response.
I am an evolutionary biologist and paleontologist who has been active in the field for over a decade. I have been a profess ... read more

At your pace, on your level

I adjust to the student/learner as I am told or discover their learning preferences. However, in my experience and research, I have noticed that active learning and discovery-based learning are arguably most effective mechanisms for knowledge retention. Therefore, I make considerable efforts to implement these styles into my teaching.
I have always been passionate about communications and teaching. I began tutoring mathematics in High School and during my undergraduate schooling I mentored and tutored introductory university level physics, calculus, chemistry, and organic chemistry. I am currently in graduate school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine studying Molecular Biology and Genomics but remain informally interested in mathematics and physics.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Towson University, Towson, Maryland in 2010 and since then I am working as a research technician in University of Maryland, Baltimore in a genomic lab conducting research in DNA replication initiation. I am also working with micro arrays. Although I do not have any teaching experience I am confident than with the knowledge that I acquired through my degree and work experience, I can guide students towards success. Also, when I was back home (I am originally from Nepal) I used to tutor my friends of the same class or grade. Also, while in college we studied in a group. While doing so I found myself so influencing to my friends while we share knowledge. So, this time I thought I can give my talent a try and start teaching as a real tutor. In the other hand, I strongly believe that no student requires a tutor. Each student is a tutor to himself. It is in the best part of ... read more

During my time in college, I was a teacher assistant for 6 different semesters. As an undergraduate at Longwood, I was a general biology teacher assistant for a laboratory section. Later, I became a teacher assistant for an anatomy lab. I aided students during lab sections. In addition to this, I held a weekly tutoring session. At the University of Notre Dame, I was the teacher assistant for a physiology lab. After giving a brief lecture, I helped students with their experiments. After such experiments, I graded lab reports and weekly assignments giving the necessary feedback.
During my teaching experiences, I have realized that all students learn differently and at varying speeds. To assume that every student is the same is wrong. Explaining a complex topic using a linear path may inform some but confuse others. Therefore, it is my goal to teach students using different sensory mo ... read more

I am a motivated teacher who desires to see the goals of the student achieved. Therefore, my teaching style takes the shape of the student, where some students are visual learners, whereas others are auditory or kinesthetic learners. Each style of learning has unique characteristics that enable the student to learn much greater when the learning style is known. By offering the student a survey of questions, I am better able to mold my teaching to their learning style and thus help the student reach their greatest potential for the subject at hand.
I have almost 10 years of experience of teaching students for the SAT,GRE, and specific subjects, combined. It started during my freshman year (1999) at Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL).
