Hello! I'm Kristin ! Lets learn something together!

Throughout my grade school experience I never obtained anything below a 3.0 GPA. As a college student I have acquired a 4.0 GPA and feel confident I can assist with any educational needs. I have never made anything less than an A on any paper I have ever written. I have experience in all fields as I have already completed the basic requirements for my degree in Psychology. English, Science, and History have always been my chosen subjects in school. Math was not my favorite but with time and dedication I overcame any “additional” problems. I coached cheerleading for 5 years as I cheered for 16 years. I feel that experience alone has provided me with an adequate way of teaching. I understand what it takes to aid an adolescent in understanding their goal and exemplifying how to reach it. My goals now are currently bachelors in Psychology, masters of Theology, and doctrine of Divinity. I ... read more

Math Can be Fun!

I have been tutoring in mathematics from basic elementary math to Calculus I for the last 10 years. Studying engineering showed me how meticulous I had to be with my study habits and I am now able to teach other students these same tips. I currently work as a tutor at Gulf Coast State College where I am familiarized with the material and common questions daily. I also offer freelance tutoring for students of all ages.
My teaching style is for the student to be methodical with their work and identify key words. I offer correction but also like to be patient to truly understand which part gives the student a struggle.

As a graduate of a private college, I have always been driven to perform at the top of my game. I have received two Bachelors degrees in both English literature and theater. Early in my collegiate career I gained a position as a teaching assistant (TA) and taught a required first year course for 3 out of my 4 years of college. In this position, I noticed that a lot of writing skills were missing from first year students that I felt that they should hav possessed and created and implemented a collegiate level writing and researching workshop that the college still uses. In addition to my TA position, I tutored nursing students in anatomy and physiology and biology classes.
I love teaching and learning. I grew up going to Montessori schools and truly believe that everyone is capable of learning its just finding the right way to teach that person--not all students can be boxed in ... read more

There is no feeling like the joy felt once a student grasps a concept you're trying to share. For that reason, I attempt to explain things in multiple ways. I also believe in honestly letting students know why and how their studies will benefit their future. Another thing I stand behind is students learning to also teach their new concepts once they have mastered them. My overall goal is to empower them to be thinkers, doers, and to expand their feeling of self-worth.
My college experience in the subjects of Economics, Government, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies was rigorous. After finishing undergraduate courses, I worked for a program that sent college students out to public schools to be Teacher's Aids. We were expected to help any students who were falling behind in a subject. The experience was so rewarding that after graduation, I took a position working with trou ... read more

Children are individuals and you must find their style of learning and be able to adapt your teaching style for that child. I believe that you must geniunely love children and teaching to be able to reach children. They can sense when someone really cares. I have a passion for learning that I believe translates to the children I work with.

I began my teaching experience during college by first working as a teacher’s aide, after which I transitioned into substitute teaching, tutoring and after school care. Eventually I graduated and worked in elementary education as a teacher. I chose to continue my education and become an engineer. Since then, I have continued to volunteer through tutoring, Kiwanis, organizing a math competition for the schools within a five county region (MATHCOUNTS) and occasionally reading for afterschool programs.
Throughout my education experience, I was taught that whole learning is the best form of education. An education is not just gained through books; every life experience is capable of teaching a child. Math can be taught through books, games or even by counting the number of sprinkles on their sundae. Science can be taught by explaining why the cloud is in the sky and why it is raining ... read more

"It isn't rocket science," is often the reply when asked why some kids have such a difficult time learning to read. I'll have to disagree, because for some kids the process of learning to read is just as complex. That's why it is so necessary for a reading teacher of struggling students to explore all avenues when providing remedial instruction. What clicks for one student might not work for another. For me, the joy of teaching struggling readers is the journey to find what works. I especially enjoy this challenge with young readers who still have the potential to thrive and learn to enjoy reading.
I recently retired after teaching thirty-six years. Most of my experience involved exceptional education student with learning disabilities. After graduating college, I served in the US Army for six years as a Chemical Defense Officer. My primary duty was to ensure that all 17,000 soldiers in the 1st Cavalry Division were trained and equipped to properly deal with chemical and biological hazards. To effectively and efficiently complete this duty, I was constantly teaching, coaching and mentoring both fellow officers as well as enlisted soldiers. I served in this role here in the states as well as on (2) 14-month deployments to Iraq. I currently teach four math classes at Everitt Middle School.
Today's students are tomorrow's leaders. That is why I am highly motivated to pass on as much knowledge as I can to as many students as I can. I do realize that all students learn differently. I have always enjoyed teaching and working with students. I believe a teacher must demonstrate patience and be flexible to the student's abilities. I have seen first hand what can happen if a teacher takes an interest in a child's education. I worked as a scout leader at a church in Pensacola. Most of the children were inner city kids who had very little parental involvement. Once the kids saw someone cared and spent time with them, they worked even harder to learn the material and were very successful. I believe a teacher can have the same impact. I am always available by phone if your child is struggling with a topic. I am a patient, easy going person that will allow a child to meet their potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children have the ability to learn. After 38 years in the teaching profession I find each year to be just as exciting as the last one. It is always so amazing to watch the "light bulb" come on with each child you touch. I believe that children learn by doing and am a firm believer in the hands on approach. I have worked the past five years providing intervention for at-risk students at my school. I also work with teachers to help them achieve the very best from their students.
I am a NBCT with 38 years experience teaching in the Bay District School System. I hold bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a masters in Reading. I have tutored with SES program in Bay County for the past three years in both reading and math for elementary age students.

I approach teaching in a way that is very versatile and I am willing to adapt to accommodate a variety of learning styles. In general however I tend to back up and work on the material that the student already is familiar and comfortable with. Once some review on the known material has been done I like to begin moving toward the material that is currently being reviewed. The length of time spent in the "review phase" is completely dependent on the student's current situation. Some situations might require a mere problem or two in this phase, while others might require additional time understanding the fundamentals before moving to the more complex current problems.

I believe in a positive environment. All children have a potential to do well in school, they just need someone to take a true interest in them and be proud of their acheivements. Patience is the key.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am in my sixth year of teaching in elementary school, and previous to that I taught for 3 years (GED prep, Life Skills, Cognitive Skills) at a prison. Prior to that, I worked as a Social Worker for ten years for the Florida Dept. of Children & Families. I currently teach ESE students at Tommy Smith Elementary, and through my varied background I have gained expertise in relating to diverse cultures, ethnicities, and classes of people. Most of the kids in my class struggle tremendously with learning, which in turn often leads to a low self esteem. I try to encourage and build them up, and as their confidence grows, learning gains ususually follow.
Many of the things in life that we don't "get" are things we don't understand. When teaching, I try to break things down and simplify them so they can be easily understood. Often the kids in my class are those who do not like to b ... read more
