Bringing Out The Potential In Students...

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Tutor: Math, Physics, and Chemistry.

When I was studying engineering at University of Michigan, I took a job as a tutor at Washtenaw Community College. This was the most rewarding job I ever had. Since about the year 2000, I have been working as a freelance tutor in the subjects of math, chemistry and physics. I also tutor students in engineering courses. I generally work with college students or upper-class high school students. Normally I work in the Brighton/Howell Michigan area. I meet most students at a public library or coffee shop. My average rate is $50 per hour. This can be negotiated, however. I like to take the students ability to pay into consideration and will charge less per hour if advanced payment can be arranged.
I like to work one on one with students in a neutral location. Small groups are not out of the question however.

Mathematics Teacher Grades 7-12

I like to have the kids be interactive with my my teaching. I have the kids fill out "fill in the blanks" while I am lecturing and I like to have the kids come up to the board and do problems after the lecturing. I also like to apply real world applications when possible.
I am currently working as a substitute teacher in many districts in metro Detroit. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Trigonometry at Oakland Christian School where I did my student teaching internship. My teaching style is very laid back. I know that every student learns differently and I try to accommodate that. When I am working with someone individually, it is easy to see if I need to backtrack and explain a concept another way. In a classroom setting it is sometimes a little more difficult to do this; However, I still want to be my best and for the students to be their best, as this is the only way for them to meet their learning potential. A Little Bit About Me...

My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style.
