I am currently working as a substitute teacher in many districts in metro Detroit. I have taught Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Trigonometry at Oakland Christian School where I did my student teaching internship. Although the majority of my work experience is in business, my selling and people skills are tremendous as a teacher. Asking the "right" questions are the key to sales and can also be applied to teaching.

Bringing Out The Potential In Students...

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. My teaching style is very laid back. I know that every student learns differently and I try to accommodate that. When I am working with someone individually, it is easy to see if I need to backtrack and explain a concept another way. In a classroom setting it is sometimes a little more difficult to do this; However, I still want to be my best and for the students to be their best, as this is the only way for them to meet their learning potential.
