I believe everyone has the ability to learn and that this truth is one of our defining qualities as humans. The problem arises when we expect the human mind to work in the same way in every individual, when we attempt to use the same strategies to teach the differing learning styles. I begin with each person by learning myself. I need to know what learning style works best for that person, what has been tried in the past, and his/her successes and failures. At all times, when one person is working with another, and especially when one is in the position of aiding another, we must only speak those things which encourage and edify. As a lifelong musician, I have always allowed my passion for music to drive me towards excellence in a variety of instruments. I have played guitar for 10 years and regularly perform in both church and secular settings. Because I also play bass, drums, keyboard and sing, I have a great feel for how each instrument fills a specific role in the overall sound you are trying to create. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience is as broad as it is varied. When I taught at Sylvan, I taught every course they needed me to. When I taught professionally, I taught teams of scientists and then instructional designers. I'm comfortable with all ages and backgrounds.
Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
