Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. I have also been a resource for undergrad and graduate health science students while serving as a graduate assistant (public health master's program). I proctored exams and held tutoring and review sessions prior to testing. I have two master's degrees, three undergraduate degrees, and experience as a paramedic, nurse, and substitute teacher. I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I also believe it is useful to utilize as many and as varied forms of instruction as possible (written, audio-visual, demonstration, etc.) to solidify a concept. Promoting thorough understanding rather than route memory and recognition skills is paramount.

I enjoy working with elementary aged children. I believe that all children want to learn but all have individual styles that an instructor must recognize. You can actually see the "a-ha" factor when a child has processed and understood something. That is my favorite expression. It looks like surprise and joy all in one facial expression. I stoped working in education and now realize that I need to be in a classroom setting working with children. I believe it is my natural calling and I plan to be a memorable instructor/tutor. As an instructional assistant for kindergarden I was responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with daily instrucion and activities. I provided individual instruction when needed and assisted in developing behavior modificaion plans.

The reason I became a teacher was to transfer my love of music to my students and also to see the joy of their successes. There is nothing like seeing the smile of success on a students face. I care greatly for all students that I have taught and will teach. I first started to study music when I was 11 years old. I grew a love for the clarinet and played for many years in middle school and high school. In college, I majored in clarinet and also studied all wind/percussion instruments as well as piano. I obtained my BA instrumental teaching degree (K-12) through Western Carolina University in June of 2003. Through the years, I have had the privilage and pleasure of teaching band in a classroom setting, marching band, and private lessons.

I truly enjoy working with children and would love to go back to school and obtain my Masters in education. I feel that each child has their own way of connecting to education and it's a magic moment when you, the teacher, find and help them utilize that connection. I am calm and patient, bubbly and outgoing, creative and responsible. Most importantly, I love helping people and being an individual that can make a difference. I graduated with a double major from Fairfield University where I was involved with volunteer groups that tutored middle school aged children from surrounding areas. Over the years I have also spent time as a nanny and have been in charge of homework and school projects. I was Lead Tutor at Armstrong Atlantic State University (2001-2003) in the Writing Center. I had previously tutored at Greenfield Community College in the Learning Center (1996-1998). My passion is to teach children with special needs (Autism). My BA degree was in Psychology (2008). I have tutored in in English, Psychology, and Biology. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Special Education. I have tutored with private facilities as well, such as Royce Learning Center and Legends Learning Center in Savannah, Ga.
