Chess is one of my top subjects! 2. I have designed and taught chess classes for both children and adults. The age of students ranges from about five years through senior adults. One-on-one personal chess instruction has also been provided for those age ranges as well. With long term experience, I have founded or co-founded successful scholastic and community-based chess clubs. Students with a wide variety of backgrounds and mental skills have been instructed on topics from the basics through tournament success. 3. Instruction development includes class material, forms and PowerPoint presentations. I have developed various techniques targeted to the audience to enhance their ease of understanding and enjoyment of the game. Chess is one of my top subjects! I'm a strong amateur/club-level player, no tournament experience but I have a good grasp of general principles and tactics, along with a decent grasp of positional play and general opening knowledge (more knowledge in the systems I generally play, obviously.) I'm able to instruct/coach beginning/intermediate players. Notice also that my rate is half the rate of other chess coaches. I'm of the belief that you don't need a titled player tutoring you to improve your chess, hiring one would be a waste of money. I learned how to play chess about twenty years ago, it's been rather on and off since then. I've steadily improved and tried so many different ways to improve before finding the right method for myself that I'm confident in my many approaches to teaching. As far as other subjects, I graduated high school with honors back in 2003 with a 3.8 GPA, and scored a composite 30 on the ACT. I was awarded the Presidential Scholarship from Baldwin-Wallace, went there for a year, didn't like the school at all (should have researched it more...)
