Chess is one of my top subjects! 2. I have designed and taught chess classes for both children and adults. The age of students ranges from about five years through senior adults. One-on-one personal chess instruction has also been provided for those age ranges as well. With long term experience, I have founded or co-founded successful scholastic and community-based chess clubs. Students with a wide variety of backgrounds and mental skills have been instructed on topics from the basics through tournament success. 3. Instruction development includes class material, forms and PowerPoint presentations. I have developed various techniques targeted to the audience to enhance their ease of understanding and enjoyment of the game. Documents designed include instructional materials, hand-outs, tests, problems sets, and other chess related items. 4. Personal chess background includes successes in tournament play and club competition. These have been at various time controls and under a variety of conditions.

1. One of my goals is to bring the joy of chess and its many benefits to as many people as possible. If I can get students to learn more than just how to play, they develop a greater appreciation for the game, get more enjoyment from it, more personal benefits and will play throughout their lives. 2. Another goal is to get students to play at a level beyond what I refer to as the “grey area.” Many people learn to play chess and then set it aside for some reason, usually one that is critical of the game (too slow, boring, etc.). That is the level of learning that I refer to as the “grey area.” 3. I do like to teach children chess primarily for the pure joy they can experience from playing as well as for all the ancillary benefits such as learning logical analysis, planning, etc. It has been especially rewarding to teach someone to perform at a level that they otherwise would ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Tutoring students is a big part of teaching. I have always tutored students in my classes and anyone who has asked for my help. I have tutored students on their writing, reading and basic math skills. Being a Special Education teacher has afforded me many opportunities to tutor. During school time and after school. If I had to pin point a specialty I would say listening and making students feel at ease right where they are academically. Showing them the educational path that will add to their knowledge and enrich it.
Striving to make the student feel comfortable is part of my basic repertoire of teaching strategies. I know that when a student does not succeed in a typical classroom environment it is easy for the student to feel negative about learning. Our society is based on the 'cookie cutter' ideology one size fits all. So when I tutor I strive for the student to feel co ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Everyone learns differently. I think by involving as many of your senses you are able to learn and retain information better. Teaching information and giving examples that are relavent to the student's life and experiences help teach the student that learning is important. The advances in technology and utilizing these resources are very important. Computer animation and pictures are amazing tools for any student, especially students that learn visually. The education system is going in the right direction by thinking outside the box. They are using every resource available to enpower students.

My teaching philosophy revolves around individual student needs. I understand that all students learn differently and sometimes teaching to "the middle" that is common in many educational system is just not effective for every student. I spend a lot of time talking to the student and observing them to figure out how best to help them. In this way, I am able to provide the best educational experience possible for every student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and have a passion for working with students with disabilities. I believe all children can learn, but many have their own individual learning style. My goal is to modify and accommodate those students, so that they are able to succeed and receive a high quality education. I am extremely patient, organized, and creative. I enjoy trying a variety of approaches until I find what works best for each individual child. I believe as educators we are responsible for setting up our students for success. We should give them many opportunities to learn through their own discoveries, so they can take some ownership over their learning and feel motivation and pride in what they have accomplished.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a driven student & business owner, I've had ownership stakes in different businesses. Educationally, I have had a natural love for mathematics (BS) & life sciences (short of minors in chemistry, physics, and biology). As my involvement in business increased while still in school, I've been able to truly understand having to choose between the daily rat race and the daily demand of academic pursuits. As a musician and guitar teacher, I understand the balance between demonstrating theory and the importance of impromptu emotion. As a teacher, I like to relate to my students in ways that preserve, maintain, and promote integrity, face, intuition, desire to succeed, and encouragement.
Teaching, or the best teachers, are required to have a certain undertanding that not just anyone has. I think teaching is a decision that demands patience, excitement, encouragement, care, and the l ... read more

With my level of collegiate expertise, I have always been the go to person when a question arose from friends, family, or other fellow classmates concerning help with an assignment. Having a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems and an MBA in Executive Business Administration allows me to be pretty versatile when it comes to education related questions. I helped a friend with some high school and collegiate mathematics to graduate high school and assimilate into college. The duration of my assistance lasted a little over a year.
I love helping others!! I feel that if an individual loves to help, aide, and teach others then the ability to teach comes naturally. I am patient, easy going, and willing to do what it takes to make sure that all concepts are understood before attempting to move forward.

I earned a 98% in my College Algebra course this past fall so I am here to lend a hand to those who could use it. My focus in college was Communication with a minor in Philosophy. I also studied international relations for 6 months in Europe, earned a certificate in graphic and web design in San Francisco, and I am currently studying medical imaging here in Cleveland. I also have a great deal of experience as a singer and guitar player, which is where the bulk of my teaching experience comes from. I have taught music to dozens of people of all ages over the past 7 years.
I believe that comparing complex concepts to everyday, personal objects and situations is the most effective way to learn. Therefore, I am big on metaphors. Algebraic concepts and formulas can often be, I have found, analogous to much simpler ideas or images. Once the abstract is related to the mundane, we can brea ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I love learning, and I get excited when a student fully grasps the material. I try and reinforce a teachers method of teaching. However, if repetition is not the issue, than I try and explain topics in different ways with lots of examples.I believe a tutor can really be a great supplement to the classroom teacher.
