Proficiency is acquired with methodical steps.

My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.
I am a credential-holding elementary school teacher with experience ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Also, I have tutored children and adults in English language arts, from basic grammar to college composition writing. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Focuses lie in both literal readings of the material and subtext (symbolism, character agenda, etc.)

Interactive. My goal is to help students become self-sufficient, not tell them how to do things. My teaching style revolves around guiding students for the first few steps before seeing how far they can go on their own.
I will have graduated from the University of California, Irvine as of June, 2015 with a B.A. in Cognitive Sciences. Throughout high school and college I have had an extensive history with writing and literary fiction, both in reading and writing.
