My comments on tutoring Government : I taught a high school government class for 4 months as part of my student teaching in a Utah high school.

I am loving, patient, and fun.
I am a very patient and loving person and am great with people. I graduated in History Teaching and secondary education. I have been in the schools at all levels as part of my curriculum, as well as voluntary work and as a substitute. I also worked as an ESL teacher for two years, speak Portuguese fluently, and speak a little bit of Spanish. So I have a lot of teaching experience. I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. I also taught a year in middle school, a year in community college and worked in administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have worked with students at all levels, from remedial to advanced placement and worked in an alternative high school setting. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching strategies which have worked for me in the classroom include cooperative learning groups that encourage social interaction, as well as, jigsaw groups. The use of PowerPoint presentations to illustrate the material utilizes a technology component which I find useful. Strategies for special needs students would include making sure to see if they are a visual, auditory, or sensory learner and teach to those senses. I would need to tailor my lesson plans by making the information more interactive for students who have special needs or are English language learners to make sure that they are learning the information. I would have more cooperative group activities and hands-on tasks that the students could engage in, such as a webquest activity in the computer lab. Graphic organizers are always good tools to use.

I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands.
