My comments on tutoring Government : I taught a high school government class for 4 months as part of my student teaching in a Utah high school.

I am a very patient and loving person and am great with people. I graduated in History Teaching and secondary education. I have been in the schools at all levels as part of my curriculum, as well as voluntary work and as a substitute. I also worked as an ESL teacher for two years, speak Portuguese fluently, and speak a little bit of Spanish. So I have a lot of teaching experience. I received a coaching minor and have experience with basketball, tennis, and soccer. I am also a very fun person. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over 5 years, and am a very creative person.
I am loving, patient, and fun.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student of the College of Science, I excel both at detail in quantifiable information , and the ability to translate professional speak into everyday language. I excel in English, Science, and Psychology. I have been tutoring for five years and homeschool my 8-year-old stepdaughter.
I take the time to assess each students learning style and tailor the material to their individuality. This makes learning fun and memorable. I am patient, easy-going, and able to quickly adjust to changing moods of students. Hands-on learning is my favorite way to teach.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching strategies which have worked for me in the classroom include cooperative learning groups that encourage social interaction, as well as, jigsaw groups. The use of PowerPoint presentations to illustrate the material utilizes a technology component which I find useful. Strategies for special needs students would include making sure to see if they are a visual, auditory, or sensory learner and teach to those senses. I would need to tailor my lesson plans by making the information more interactive for students who have special needs or are English language learners to make sure that they are learning the information. I would have more cooperative group activities and hands-on tasks that the students could engage in, such as a webquest activity in the computer lab. Graphic organizers are always good tools to use.
My background includes an undergraduate degree in History and ... read more

Teachings students one-on-one is the love of my life. I see progress in this format that is outstanding. Students can make several levels of progress in a short period of time. Providing a positive, constructive and enthusiastic environment is foundational to the success of the student. The teacher also must show by their actions that they are very interested in the success of the student. With positive interventions, there will be a positive difference in the life of the tutored child.
The biggest motivation of my teaching career is to hold a high standard of expectation. I have a MA in Special Education, and a BA in Business Administration. I am adding to my teaching certificate an additional endorsement in middle level and high school math. I have home schooled all four of my children. Two of my children have BA degrees and another is currently in college. I teach an afterschool ... read more

I love learning and communicate that enthusiasm when I teach. I am patient and kind, and very good at breaking down assignments and problems to manageable tasks. I have a creative streak that enables me to devise interesting and effective ways to help students connect with the material. I believe knowledge is power and I strive to help all students reach their full potential so they can be empowered in their lives.
While I have six years of classroom teaching experience, I've spent the 20 years since my MA in Counseling as a teacher and trainer for a variety of nonprofits. I have trained volunteers, developed manuals and curricula for children through adults, and offered seminars for as many as 200 people. My five years as a writing instructor for a community college honed my skills in all aspects of writing and drew on my BA in English, as well as my avocation as a writer. M ... read more

After returning to college to get my teaching certificate I taught 5th grade for one year. I then taught at a high school in Salinas, California for four years. As an elementary teacher I taught all subjects except science. I taught various history and social studies classes to the high school students including World History, honors U.S. History, Psychology and Current Events. I left teaching in 1992 to attend law school but have volunteered as a mentor on several occasions which has allowed me the opportunity to tutor children in both elementary and middle school.
I enjoy learning and try to pass along some of my enthusiasm to my students. I will work with the student to find the best methods for us to approach the material so he or she will have the greatest success. I believe that creating a structure assists in the learning process, but the structure may be different for ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated with a BA from Willamette University with a major in history and minors in math and Spanish. I then attended Willamette's MAT program where I earned a Masters in Education with endorsements to teach middle and high school mathematics, social studies and ESOL. I have taught at Woodburn High School for 6 years now in the mathematics department. I have taught a range of mathematical levels: from pre-algebra through Advanced Placement Statistics. Throughout college and my teaching career I have tutored a variety of students between the ages of 5 to adult in subjects such as reading, writing, math, study skills, and SAT preparation.
Helping students be successful is the most important aspect of teaching, in my opinion. Each student is unique in his or her learning style. A teacher's job is to find the way in which a student learns best and to encourage them to think o ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I hold BAs in History and Modern Languages (German/French), and have done graduate work in Theology and French Translation. This background has given me a broad understanding across the humanities and an ever-deepening knowledge of the world's languages, literatures, cultures, and religious traditions. I am fluent in German, literate in French, and able to provide basic assistance with Russian, Japanese, and Afrikaans. I have been a substitute teacher (all subjects, K-12), a university tutor, an ESL instructor in Montreal, and a guest editor at an academic journal. My writing, both creative and academic, has been published in a variety of journals, and I have presented papers at two university conferences.
I am a strong believer in interrelating knowledge in diverse areas and illuminating its applications to real life in the belief that students are more motivated to learn when th ... read more
