I began teaching remedial math and English skills to college age students/returning Vietnam vets in Colorado in the 1970's. Since that time, I have tutored kids of all ages in those same skills. What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class.
