As a Spanish/English graduate from UNCW I began teching Spanish at the Friends school Of Wilmington. I taught there for two years. In addition to Spanish I was a service learning coordinator, tutor, and yoga instructor.I then taught ESL in Columbus County for one year. In Columbus County I served as a translator and testing agent as well. I have tutored in Spanish, English, and math I love teaching holistically. I belive strongly in differentiation, not everyone learns the same way. I belive in teaching children out themselves so that they can bulid better study habbits in all areas that they study. I am very open and ask for a lot of participation on behalf of the student. I feel that if they get involved and ask lots of questions that they will learn better. I love helping children and try and find creative ways to help them learn and remember their work at hand. I have completed both an MBA and bachelors degree in business and during that education I studied a wide array subjects. Marketing, Finance, accounting, HR, and economics. I really enjoy hands on learning/teaching style. I think students learn better by doing, though learning to take better notes helps with being able to do more hands on. I have always liked working with students, and have taken some education courses. I think it is very important to make learning more fun. I graduated Cum Laude, in English literature. I have always done well in English, and have always enjoyed reading and writing. I was a member of STD, the English Honors Society, and loved helping out with various events. I have privately tutored middle and elementary school students, in which they all received better grades than the year before.

As a graduate from western Carolina University, I earned my BS in Criminal Justice in three years and am close to gaining my MS in Human Services. I have been working in the human service field as a case manager/community support worker. Although it is not thought of as a teaching job, I have had the pleasure of teaching children and adults basic skills, academic skills and assisting with homework. I have found a great place in teaching, especially tutoring, due to my desire to help other people. I enjoy walking students through new information and giving them a firm understanding of the concepts and facts. I believe that there is nothing outside of a students grasp. I present the information straight forward, then use analogies and metaphors to relate the information to the students on a different level, giving them a more solid comprehension of the material. My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as an individual person, with their own talents and ideas. There is nothing better than when a person's face lights up, young or old, when they "get it." Knowing you have impacted a person, potentially for the rest of their life, is a reward in and of itself. The pay that comes attached to it is the bonus.
