I am a classroom certified teacher and also been tutoring in this area for over 5 years. I have over ten years of teaching. I have taught ELA,Reading comp, math, science at all levels. I have taught in public schools, private schools, charter schools and at post-secondary institutions. I have been a tutor since 2003 where I worked with Sylvan Learning Center before starting my own education consulting service. I like to have organization and structure while tutoring but I also am flexible and can change my approach on how I am helping the student based on his/her body language. If a student is bored and loves sports, after reading I love to go outside and play basketball with them while asking them questions about what we've just learned. Incorporating their interests in learning the subjects is important to me. I have experience tutoring students at an elementary and middle school level in reading, Spanish and science and math. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Nutrition and Spanish. I am currently in graduate school studying integrative medicine. I do have experience with tutoring students with special needs including students with autism.

I taught grades kindergarten, first grade and second grade for a total of twenty-six years. Since then, I have tutored pre-k through 5th grade. My last assignment was tutoring a fifth grader in writing composition. I have worked as a tutor with several children on their reading, spelling and math skills. I worked as a UIL coach for creative writers in second grade. To teach reading, I teach the children to use all the reading strategies used by good readers.Examples of those strategies would be sight words, visual and context clues, and phonics. Then, I prefer to use leveled readers to improve their fluency and comprehension. For writing, after assessing their composition, I work with them to improve where needed skills such as organization, elaboration, complex sentences and transitions.
