More About This Tutor...

I help students become independent learners. I am here to guide you through a problem, not to do it for you. With guidance, I believe students master the material easier.
I have been a math tutor since 2006. I have tutored all kind of classes at Miami Dade college and Marshall University. I enjoy doing math and helping people who have difficulties figuring out how to solve certain problems. It all starts with the basics. If you master the basics, you should do fine in the subject. That's why I believe everybody can get better at math if he/she gets the proper motivation which is what I plan on bringing out of you.

My comments on tutoring Calculus II : Have taught Calculus II at two community colleges and at ITT-Tech. Total teaching experience in the subject is 32 years

I am capable of both structured and informal teaching styles depending upon the situation. I find that when smaller increments of course instruction is followed up with the student demonstrating proficiency and comprehension the overall learning experience is maximized. Repetition is normally the best way to comprehend not only the material presented but it allows the student to assimilate the steps and formulas simulataneously.
I possess over 30 years of academic/industry training the areas of mathematics, networking, programming and engineering. Having taught for 2 universities, 2 community colleges and several private institutions I bring to the class both an academic/private industry point of view. Students are taught not only the specific details of the course but are also shown where the subject matter is used in industry along jobs which might employ this knowled ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching has been a source of great pleasure for me. While I was working at regular full-time jobs, I usually had a part-time teaching position. Over a period of 16 years, I have taught more than 50 classes at community colleges, four-year colleges and universities. I also tutored children and high school students, mostly for friends, and mostly for the fun of it. Four of my five children have gone on to engineering or computer science degrees and really love their work. As a manager, I saw myself as a teacher also. I found that an open-minded team approach brings out the best abilities in everyone, when they feel safe to contribute, whether on a work team or in a class room.
In my experience, fear and self-consciousness interfere the most with learning. This seems especially true of arithmetic and higher levels of math. I don't believe that children should force themselves ... read more

The best method I have found for relating mathematical and scientific concepts to students has been with a majority of examples. While explaining theory is necessary for a student to gain the basics of a concept it is only through working problems and exercises that a student truly understands the material. When teaching I would usually explain a section of material as best I could, then work through multiple examples that illustrate the material. This is then supplemented with exercises for the students to work through on their own.
For the last 8 years I have been involved at some level in educating college students in general, analytical, and physical chemistry at the Florida State University. I have taught recitations and labs as well as having one-on-one time with students to help them with their school work. I have strong backgrounds in math, physics, and chemistry. Tho ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I decided changing my career of industrial engineer for the teacher profession (in the United States of America) because I love the education and children and I like to teach. Teaching is a challenging and rewarding profession. It requires special personal characteristics and sensitivity. An outstanding and effective educator is a teacher that goes into teaching to make a difference. The effective teacher has positive expectations for students success and a positive attitude, is a good classroom manager. An outstanding teacher is flexible, adaptable, and listens. It is capable of acquiring parents support to work cooperatively with them. I think that my decision was correct. I do not regret of this important change in my life.
My original profession is engineering but I have been linked to teaching and education for many years. I graduated abroad and as an engineer I participated ... read more
