I possess over 30 years of academic/industry training the areas of mathematics, networking, programming and engineering. Having taught for 2 universities, 2 community colleges and several private institutions I bring to the class both an academic/private industry point of view. Students are taught not only the specific details of the course but are also shown where the subject matter is used in industry along jobs which might employ this knowledge. The best method I have found for relating mathematical and scientific concepts to students has been with a majority of examples. While explaining theory is necessary for a student to gain the basics of a concept it is only through working problems and exercises that a student truly understands the material. When teaching I would usually explain a section of material as best I could, then work through multiple examples that illustrate the material. This is then supplemented with exercises for the students to work through on their own.
