German is one of my top subjects! I have received a B.A. in German Language from Mercer University in Macon, GA. I have spent time abroad in the host country during the summer.

I am a "kid-at-heart" who has a passion for helping other learn and succeed. I enjoy foreign languages and I want to share my enthusiasm with others. By traveling often, I remain enthusiastic about the subjects I study. Over the past 4 years especially, I have spent many weeks in Germany and France and have fallen in love with the people and their culture. I enjoy finding short stories and comics that help others better understand and learn the language. I also have many supplies from abroad, such as books and DVDs. If I did not major in foreign languages, I would have also enjoyed getting my degree in math education. I like math because I find security in knowing that there is always a right answer. I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. Often, it takes several different approaches before a student is able to understand the concept. A Little Bit About Me...

Assuming that most students would rather be anywhere than an English class, I listen to their interests of the moment and then relate them to my goals. I explore their previous knowledge and build on that, avoiding either boring them or talking over their heads. I listen, we laugh, and then I reel them in, constantly showing them how my goals are relevant to their ultimate desires. Fast, if not immediate, feedback is essential to keeping students motivated, as is elaborate explanation of why they scored what they score. Therefore, students see themselves as in control of their own learning, with a benevolent and knowledgeable mentor easing them along.

My teaching and tutoring experience began prior to completing the BA in Foreign Languages: I had been teaching and tutoring English and Latin to a few Italian students. After graduating and moving to the USA, I started tutoring Latin and Italian to American students. I have always been drawn towards languages, and I find it easy to understand not only the different grammatical principles but also the different culture each language represents.
