A Little Bit About Me...

As an Le Moyne College graduate, I was required to become well rounded in a multiple areas of study. I have achieved a BA in History and minor in the German language. The core courses in the Le Moyne curriculum assisted me in becoming well rounded in the areas of philosophy, religion,math and science. Due to writing research papers I have an wide vocabulary and precise grammatical skills. I am currently a 4H club leader and I mentor young girl.
I believe that a subject should be presented in a way that is fun for the pupil. I provide a very hands on approach to learning. I love teaching. I always get well prepared before I sit down with someone. A couple of hours of preparation beforehand can make the difference between a tedious, unproductive experience and one that encourages the student and makes the excited about learning. I try to help with sticking points and not to lecture. I have discovered that people tend to remember answer to their questions and if I try to explain a deeper meaning it will only bore them and make them less interested.
At the University of Illinois at Chicago I earned a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering and worked as a teaching assistant for three sememsters of graduate school. I realize that math can be very boring to students, but contrary to popular belief it can also be, do I dare say it, fun. I believe that repetition plays an integral part in learning, but only if the material is relevant to the student. I really enjoy working with students no matter the age and I believe that everyone can be successful when it comes to math or any subject to that matter.
After graduating from high school, I was unsure what exactly I wanted to do. I began working as a counselor/activities director for a summer recreational program in 2004 which allowed me to realize that working with kids is what I want to do.
