I am very patient and encouraging with a lot of positive feedback. I design my lessons by looking at the specific needs and learning styles of my students with welcomed input from their parents and teachers. Each session is filled with very interactive activities including educational games which I tailor to meet individual needs. A Little Bit About Me...

Since I am an artist, I naturally try to teach in a way that honors intuitive ways of learning. I believe that students can often sense the correct way to do a math or writing problem and should be encouraged to trust their own intelligence. Everyone has his/her own way to get at a particular problem. I think the key to understanding many learning difficulties is respecting the child's own processes.
I elected to homeschool my three children who are now teenagers; thus I have many years of one-on-one teaching experience. I feel that some children need to be away from the stresses sometimes experienced at school in order to discover their academic gifts. As an graduate of Illinois, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned these degrees, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of my own children as well as other children I serve. Although I am a Language Arts and History major, I am fluent in French and am learning Spanish. I have a natural gift for languages and numbers and wish to pursue putting these abilities to practice. I have learned extensive Mathematical skills due to tutoring in afterschool programs, working closely with the Math Investigations resource books and the North Carolina Standard Course of study. Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
