I like working with children of all ages. I believe that children of all ages and cultural backgrounds can learn if given a proper chance. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books. If I were to sum my "style" of teaching up, it would be "patience with determination". Perhaps my best achievment is with my wife who recently graduated from A-B Tech. Kate has always had a block toward anything mathematic. She had one course between her and graduation, college algebra! The bottom line here is that I patiently stuck through this course treatment with her to a successful completion, she completed the course and graduated with a well earned "C" or a 78%. Since I am an artist, I naturally try to teach in a way that honors intuitive ways of learning. After receiving a B.S. degree in elementary education (1-8) and an ESL certification, I taught K-6 for 13 years. After that, I was a math consultant for one year. Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions.
