I have tutored and taught English, writing, and ESL in a large variety of settings. I am currently teaching two compostion courses with Houston Community College but have time available in the early afternoon and evening. I have served in positions such as ESL teacher and ESL interventionist at Elsik High School in Houston, as well as, Bilingual Program Manager for the Louisiana Department of Education. In addition, I taught for over two years in Colombia, South America and speak Spanish. I recently finished working with a second language student preparing him for the Acuplacer Test and other language issues in preparation for the university. Having taught for more than five years as a certified teacher, I feel that I have what it takes to be an educator. Understanding the psyche of the student is of prime significance to me, which helps me in directing the teaching strategies and techniques. In order to let the student realize the significance of learning, I try to design a curriculum that is application based. I prefer that the student understands the purpose behind learning. In order to achieve my goal, I spend quality time in talking and developing an effective communication platform. I avoid doing rote learning. Therefore I make the worksheets and lesson plan as application based as I can. Some techniques and strategies are also employed on occasions.

I have been in education for several years now and have found it to be very rewarding. Being able to witness the growth and successes of students from all education levels has truely been a gift. From high school to elementary, from AP courses to Special Education courses, to see the potential in a student and support their growth and development is not a just an occupation in my eyes but a privilage. I think it takes a lot for one teacher to reach all of types of students who are all at different levels of interest in the subject being taught as well as at different levels of understanding. However, I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to give them all equal opportunity to learn. It is not just about grades and assignments, that is just the means to an end, but it is about learning. In order for the students to learn, the teacher needs to be passionate about the students as well as the subject that is being taught. That will instill in the students a desire to learn and understand. In having a science background, I have not only learned laboratory skills and reasoning skills, but I have learned how to increase efficiency, communicate in a clear manner, and write in a way that is direct and clear. I enjoy learning, and I instill that passion into my students as best I can.
