Biology is one of my top subjects! I have taken and received A's in two Biology courses at Ball State University.

I like to teach as if I am one friend talking to another. I find that this is the most relaxed way to encourage learning. While a relaxed atmosphere is important, my parents (both elementary and high school teachers) showed me the importance of completing objectives. I will push you, my friend, to learn as much as possible - and retain that information - during our time together.

Biology is one of my top subjects! Certified biology teacher with a second bachelor's degree in animal science / pre-veterinary medicine. I did biologically based research while in college, and for some time afterward. Have extensive background in several biologically based areas. I have taught 9th grade biology and am currently working as a biology teacher.

I am a certified modeling teacher. Modeling is a "hands on" inquiry based style of teaching. I teach through allowing the students to deal with a given problem or scenario. I then use extensive amount of questioning to help the child to use their logic to solve the problem. This not only teaches the science material; but it also helps the student to learn how to think logically and to ask themselves the right questions. In other words, I don't just teach the material, I teach students how to think critically in a way that not only helps the student to learn the science, but also in other areas where critical thinking is needed to help understand and solve problems.

I began homeschooling my children in 1993. My older son was in 8th grade, my younger son was in 4th grade, my oldest daughter was in Kindergarten, and my twin daughters were 2 years old. My older son graduated with 2 bachelor degrees after spending a year in France as an English teacher in a high school. My younger son graduated with a double degree and a minor. Both are currently in grad school. My oldest daughter will be returning to school next year after a 2-year leave. My twin daughters will begin college in the fall. Homeschooling has enabled me to keep abreast of current learning as well. I have tutored 3 students in the last year, all three in algebra and the one student in geometry, too.

Throughout my scholastic career I have always been a focused and driven student. While at Elder, I was a Spanish and science tutor, graduated in the top four percent of my class, and received the distinction of "National Hispanic Scholar." Also, during the summers, I volunteered at Children's Hospital, monitoring play-rooms and working with children of all ages. Here at Ball State I am pursuing degrees in Pre-Medicine and Spanish and am well-versed in Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, and all aspects of writing, both in English and Spanish. My cumulative GPA at this time is 3.93. Last semester I made my first foray into the world of teaching, and spent the semester working on English pronunciation and grammar with a Cuban woman. This experience was invaluable and opened my eyes to the joy of helping someone learn while giving me the skill set necessary to create lesson plans and monitor progr ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching children since 1990, when I worked as a Naturalist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. I did this kind of education for 3 years. I then created my own educational company and presented workshops on natural resource topics for children and adults from 1997-2002. More recently, from 2006-09, I worked both as a substitute school teacher and a contract tutor. I am presently presenting weekly tree programs at my local Boys and Girls Club.
I am an advocate of hands-on teaching whenever possible. Praise works wonders in getting results from reluctant learners. I am patient and empowering as a tutor, and attempt to discover the best methods for each individual student's best learning possibilities.

I like to work one-on-one with students. I can get a better feel for their learning style and therefore teach for that specific student. I like to teach by relating the subject to real life situations. All students can learn anything, it just sometimes takes a more personal approach before it really clicks. That is what I want to provide for a student.
I graduated Cum Laude from Ball State with a double major in Visual Communication and Genetics. Both my parents were teachers and I often tutored my friends. I taught Swimming to children every summer for from 2001-2005, so I have experience with young children having a hard time paying attention. I have strong skills in science and math.

During college, I changed my major several times, taking numerous classes for each one to determine what I wanted to do with my life. I experimented with Political Science for two years, in which I took classes in criminology, speech, and history. My next year of college was spent in English and Writing, where I focused on the obvious, as well as classes in psychology. The last few years of my college experience, where I ended up graduating with a Bachelor’s in Finance, were based around all of the science and math classes that Ohio Dominican University had to offer. I have also worked in multiple management positions where I was responsible for interviewing and training countless employees.
My teaching style is one of friendly leadership. Working through problems or lessons with the student by leading them through it, then working it with them side by side while explaining th ... read more

I have received my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and Honors Thesis Research at Purdue University. I have recently applied to medical school and taken the MCAT. I have experience in college level physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, and extensive experience in college level biology. I have taught/tutored students at the high school level and I have been a teacher's assistant for a sophomore level biology lab/class. I am very comfortable with teaching students, and I feel that most students find me to be very thorough and clear with the material.
My first priority is talking with the student and figuring out what difficulties they are having with the subject. After identifying some problem areas, I help the student understand the material and teach them effective ways for studying the material. I am very respectful to each student's level of knowledge of the subject ... read more
