A Little Bit About Me...

Since graduating from Northern Illinois University, I have had several experiences teaching children at the elementary and middle school age. I was a nanny for a family of three for a year right after graduating. It was a wonderful experience and gave me the opportunity to create my own lessons and activities for the children. The following year I was a substitute teacher in Wisconsin for various grade levels and loved each experience. I am looking forward to beginning to substitute teach again this December in the DeKalb area.
I have wanted to be a teacher all my life. I love working with children and teaching. I believe that children are the future and should be given the opportunity to do well and succeed in school. I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.

I graduated from Purdue University in the Spring of 2009. Obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education, I also received Academic Honors during the Fall of 2007, Spring 2008, Fall 2008, and Spring 2009. Recently, I taught Language Arts for 7th graders as well as READ 180, a remedial reading program designed to improve reading levels, at McCulloch Middle School in Marion, Indiana.
