I teach in a laid-back, natural method. We like to have fun! I respect all talented, dedicated & accomplished classical musicians and anyone who reads musical notation. I don't teach sheet music or following musical pieces along as if you were reading instructions. I prefer to get blossoming musicians in touch with the natural way to enjoy music and express themselves. We accomplish this with playing by ear, utilizing musical properties and phrases that work together well, and making a connection with the music and its meaning. For the past six years I have been focusing on Hawai'ian music and Hawai'ian culture. I believe the ukulele is one of the best instruments to introduce children to music, musical theory and the enjoyment of music as a cultural activity.

I have a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Trinity Washington University. I served as After School Director in the Catholic School System and First Grade Teacher/Team Leader in the urban public school system, where I coordinated and conducted quarterly Parent Discussion Night to increase parent involvement and monitor student remedial progress with implementation of SIT meetings. I facilitated and planned weekly grade level meeting and presentations, where I monitored grade level data and modified instructional programs as needed to increase academic achievement and performance.
