Once we discover what is needed, I encourage the student to look for strategic, organized ways of fulfilling that need. Some students need help reading a text closely to uncover meaning so they can develop an essay with solid evidence, for example. Other students struggle with SAT or MCAS writing because they are not yet familiar with the standard forms.
