LEARN THE GUITAR BY WITHOUT (FIRST) LEARNING TO READ MUSIC!

My Approach To Teaching Guitar... At the early age of 14, I discovered that I had a “knack” for music when I had the opportunity for a friend to show me how to play a few basic chords on his guitar (because I didn’t own one myself). Although press- ing down on the strings hurt my fingertips, and my fingers kept slipping out of position, I fell in love with the guitar’s sound when it all finally came together... Eventually, my mother bought me my first guitar! After time continued to pass, I discovered that what was allowing me to get deeper involved with the guitar was that I was developing an “ear”or “feel” for music which simply means when I heard music, I was able to figure out how to play what I heard - the chord structure, the rhythm, the melody - all without reading music! A Little Bit About Me...

In 2006 I taught graphic design topics at Westwood College. In 2007 I taught the same subject at The Creative Circus (roughly equivalent to an MBA program for designers, writers, photographers, and art directors). In 2008 I taught in the design department for Georgia State University. This summer I traveled to a remote region in India to teach English. I have taught GRE prep for the past 3 years, covering the verbal, quantitative (math), and analytical writing (essay) areas. As a test prep teacher, I have a close knowledge of students' approach to graduate school, and the process of improving their chances of acceptance to schools of choice. I am academically qualified and more especially interested in teaching humanities courses.

I was introduced to teaching as a guitar teacher and loved the field of education ever since. My first school experience was teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies in Queens, N.Y.in 1979. Finally, I found my niche in high school teaching various subjects such as Physical Science, Biology, Social Studies and tutoring after school programs for the passing of the high school graduation tests. In 1993 I moved to Georgia and became fully certified in the fields of Physical Science, Health and P.E.and ESOL. I successfully tutored high school students to pass the graduation tests with a >95% rate.

I have a played piano for over 25 years. Completed my Minor in Piano Performance at Jacksonville State University. Currently performing gigs as keyboardist in Classic Rock cover band. I am teaching my daughter piano, and have 2 years experience training in both retail sales and customer service.
