I prefer to work with small groups of students or individuals as it is easier to meet each student's needs. I am very concise and methodical, but am also sensitive enough to pace myself according to the student's needs. Of course, experience is the best teacher, so I usually review the points that the student has questions on, provide an example of the principles in action, and then help the student work through some problems until he or she understands satisfactorily. On the survey sheets that I've seen, I'm often praised for being very patient with students and very respectful of the students, no matter what their level of understanding. I typically spend very little time in verbal explanation, but a lot of time if running through examples with students so they can see the patterns for themselves... practice makes perfect.
I've found that I really enjoy teaching students, especially those who are struggling, because of the satisfaction that comes with seeing the light come on.
