After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district. This is a job I love for the simple fact that I have variety everyday. It is also a great way to stay up to date on all subject matter. I am also in the process of earning my Master's Degree in Education.

My teaching style is, for the most part, non-directive. I think it is important to try to have students answer their own questions. When this does not work, I do not just tell the student what goes where or why this doesn't work, I give reasons and have them tell me these same reasons the next time we come across something that doesn't work.
At SCSU, I work as a writing consultant at the Writing Center on campus. With students, I help to make them better writers by helping answer questions, presenting questions, working through the brainstorming and paper-writing process, and helping with formatting. When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years.
