Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am proficient in ASL, I have been an interpreter for almost 20 years as well as being a coda(child of deaf adults)

I have signed since birth being born to deaf parents. I have Interpreted for approximately 20 years in the school system at the junior high school and high school levels. I have hearing impaired family and friends & am immersed in the deaf culture which helps keep my signing vocabulary current. I have also taught adult sign language classes, teaching kids and adults the basic fundamentals if signing ASL.

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Currently, I am working as a community and educational interpreter. I completed an interpreter training program several years ago and have been signing for over 12 years.

Recently I have begun working as an American Sign Language instructor (adjunct professor) at a local community college and have been tutoring a variety of students outside of the classroom. In addition, I have been an interpreter for 5 years and have been signing for over 12 years. Originally, I learned ASL in Ohio and had to adjust to New Jersey regional signs. After deciding to become an interpreter, I attended classes at Union County College and Ocean County College. I am active in deaf coffee chats and meetups in northern and central New Jersey.
I am flexible. Sign language can only be learned through repetition and practice, so there will be a lot of voice-off communication exchanges. My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned.
