Sociology is one of my top subjects! I am a Sociology major at CSU Stanislaus concentrating in Drug & Alcohol studies

I was a tutor in High School to the AVID students, I also volunteer tutored while attending junior college. I have experience helping mostly high school students but I feel comfortable and I am experienced enough to help middle school and elementary school children. I was also a nanny for close to 2 years and during that time, I tutored a teen who has Autism in all school subjects and was successful in helping her raise her grades and be able to study independently.
I am very hands on. I prefer to assess my students needs and then approach the subject to the area they specifically need help in. I have a lot of patience and am not afraid to spend a lot of time working on one or two things. If I can find a way, I like to make tutoring of studying a game or find easy ways to help my student(s) remember things better. Fun learning in my opinion, is the best way to learn.

More About This Tutor...

I was the first one in my family to graduate from college. My parents did not have the great opportunity that I did and were only able to complete elementary school. I have always thought that education can get you anywhere you want and that knowledge is something hat cannot be taken away from you ever. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Biology with an emphasis in Human Development. It's not easy to go through college, but with hard work and dedication everything is possible. There is one thing I know for sure, that even now that I know all the hours of studying and lack of sleep that it takes to graduate, I would do it all over again because at the end its all worth it.
I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am available to help your child find academic success. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My ... read more

As a accomplished student, I realized I always had help along the help with achieving academic success. From teachers and counselors to my peers and older students. I began to help other with academics as early as the third grade, however I began to commit to tutoring in High School and continue it through-out college, in hopes to eventually becoming a teacher in the future.
I believe anyone can teach a subject, having enough knowledge of a subject allows one to pass it on. However, I feel what many teachers do not do is teach students how to learn. It is in my belief that teaching students to learn enables them to think independently allowing them to become more creative rather than repetitive. So not only do I teach students the subject, I teach them how to learn and apply it to every other subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began my (formal) teaching career as a Peace Corps volunteer in the countries of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan where I taught English as a foreign language to the students ranging from the 3rd to the 11th grade, working with the local teachers in the host countries, and gaining valuable cultural and international insights. After coming back to the States, I became a substitute teacher for the Stockton School for Adults where I taught ESL, computer skills, English, and math to immigrants, senior citizens, high school students, and post-high school students. Furthermore, I have been working as a formal tutor for an after school tutoring program called TutorWorks.
My goal as an educator is to facilitate the needs of the student and foster critical thinking skills. Be it math, science, English, computer, or another subject, my role as an educator is to be a person who guides the stude ... read more

I enjoy working with children. My theory of teaching is using the multiple intelligence theory. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn but in their own way. I like to incoporate different styles of learning in a lesson. I also like to incorporate hands on activities, because I believe that doing is learning.
I have been working with children from K-12 grade since 2001. I was part of the Math Academy in 2002. I have been subsituting in grades K-8 since 2009. I am fluent in the Spanish and I have experience working with migrant as well as with English Learner students. I worked with EL students for 3 years. I have also had the chance to work with special needs children.

I attended the University of the Pacific when I was 35 years young and my goal was to graduate with a degree before the age of 40 which is what I did. Since that time, I have worked at the Lodi Unified School District as a substitute teacher, both long-term and daily, and as a primary teacher of general education and special education classrooms. Because of the current economic situation, I am without a full-time teaching job. I started tutoring students in reading and math as a way to continue to teach and earn an income. Teaching is my passion and my love and I welcome the opportunity to tutor more students for your company.
I teach like I learn by hands-on, listening, reading, writing, and practicing what I have learned. I like to tap into prior knowledge of my students through informal and formal assessments, talking to their parents, and talking to them about what they think ... read more
