I believe that all children can learn and all children are capable of learning. But, all students learn differently, so, I feel that by changing lessons and incorporating different things into each one to accomodate most, or all, students is necessary. I was part of an intensive course of study which prepared teachers for real world experience from the first year of study. After graduation, I taught for four years in the California public school system, one year of a third/fourth grade combo class and another three years of third grade. I then moved to Central Asia and spent a year homeschooling the children of an American family who lived there. Rather than tell the student the answer, I find a way to allow the student to discover the answer him or herself. One way how I do this is by asking the pupil smaller leading questions in order to put the pieces of the bigger picture together.
