I earned my B.S. in Mathematics with an Economics minor from Upper Iowa University in May 2018. During my sophomore through senior years at Upper Iowa University, I tutored mathematics subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra through Calculus I. I also tutored microeconomics and macroeconomics. I have a BA in Music with a piano pedagogy minor. While a student, I started teaching piano at the community music school at my college. In January 2010, I started teaching privately in Loves Park, IL. I now maintain a studio of 20-25 active students. I also am a licensed kiddykeys instructor. Kiddykeys is a preschool music appreciation and keyboard exploration course which teaches basic music skills to children ages 2 1/2-5. I believe in wholistic music education, so I teach note reading, music theory, and ear training. I use instruction, interactive activities, games, and performance opportunities to give students a relaxed and complete understanding of playing and performing at the piano.

I tutored online for AOL for ten years. This included all grades, with emphasis in the science and music fields. I also edited articles for their knowledge database. Editing involved examining articles, making sure that each one was clear, concise, and free of mistakes. I wrote many articles for the database, as well, in several different areas of study. I enjoy working with students of all ages and needs. I have worked with children in our public schools, as well as with autistic children in their homes. I have learned that patience and praise are major tools in teaching, enabling students to experience success and confidence in their education.

When I am teaching I am very patient and try to organize the lesson or my assistance in steps. I'll have the child read the problem or question, ask what they know about it, see if they understand the question and proceed. The patient style helps me see what the student's strengths and weaknesses are so I know what they need to practice and focus on. If the child has multiple assignments or tasks I have them perform the more difficult ones first. Starting with the easy assignments may seem like it makes sense but I would prefer that the student have more energy for the tasks they'll have more difficulty with. During my high school years I would volunteer to help children through various charities and church.
