I have worked within schools for the past six years. I also completed two student teaching requirements for my state certification. With a B.A. in Journalism, I have written for radio, TV, national magazines and several newspapers. I have worked with college-age and adult students teaching them English speaking and writing skills. In pursuing my Master of Education in TESOL, I have learned how to teach students about grammar, writing and reading. I will receive my Masters of Education in TESOL this Saturday, May 2nd. Since graduate school I have been tutoring off and on mostly at the high school level in a variety of subjects, mostly math, through pre calculus, spanish, study skills, test preparation, history, sciences. I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. I have had the opportunity to work as a house mother at a home for at-risk teenage girls. I have also taught tenth and seventh grades English and history. I enjoy working with students one-on-one after school hours and learning how to develop their potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

Personally, I enjoy everything about education. I believe that if you can educate a person, then doors are opened for them. I am the type of tutor that gives basic instructions, then I allow the student to try a few things on their own. If they struggle, then I will step in and help them. I prefer to go over the same material as much as needed until the student is comfortable with the subject matter. Then, I like to move on to a new subject.
In relation to the tutoring position, I have a year of experience in tutoring grammar school students in math and reading. As a graduate student at Mississppi State University, I was a teacher assistant for 2 years in Introduction to World Geography. These are the only two jobs I have had that are related to job that I am applying for.
