I have two decades of experience in education. My first 10 years were spent in adult education training adults to work in various organizations in the business world. My last 10 years have been spent in public education classrooms working as a teacher for elementary, middle, and high school students. I have taught core content courses at each level. I really enjoy teaching and tutoring because not only am I helping others, I am learning as well. Teaching and tutoring are about giving: giving your time, your knowledge, and the things that you know will help your students. Every student learns at his/her own pace. My teaching style is adaptive to the particular student and subject matter. I like to encourage students to learn for themselves. The Socratic method of teaching has been instilled in me as the most engaging and successful approach to learning. Through a series of deliberate, well-directed, leading questions from a tutor, the student arrives at the "answer" through his or her own reasoning process, as opposed to getting the answer through a tutor spitting out information. This approach builds confidence in the student, rather than dependence on the tutor, as the student receives a model of the learning process that they will ultimately be able to implement themselves. I believe that this approach, utilized by a tutor such as myself who is patient and encouraging, will never fail.

Currently I work at an alternative school for students with learning disabilities and behavioral problems teaching Math and Art. Although there is no art program, I voluntarily head up art contests and help students paint murals on the campus. My degrees are in Computer Information Systems, French, and Spanish.
