I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. My teaching style is energetic and over the top. I like to think back to when I was in school and the subjects that stuck out to me, and why. It was because I was having fun learning, and that is how I try to approach each of my lessons. I relate them to real world situations if possible and try to put a personal spin on my lessons. My experience in Title I schools has been very exciting and rewarding. I have been able to use my degree in English as a resource for reading and writing and saw great results as my students' skills and interest levels soared as each year progressed. My unique approach to reading which is to stimulate interest in subject areas in advance of presenting materials seems to work wonders for children with limited life experience.
