Give Real life experience a try

Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.
Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching children, working with them to find their talents, and strengths. All children have the ability to learn, each child learns differently so it is important to find out each child's learning style so that learning is made easier for them. I have worked with special needs children, for three years. I believe that children learn through using their different senses. I am patient, easy going and have the students best interest in mind. I believe that all children can be successful in their education, and I love being part of that success.

My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors. I have not helped or tutored in a while but I believe I have an easy and simple approach to it. When it comes to physics and chemistry, the math can be learned over night, the concepts are most critical. You can't read a problem and interpret the question word for word. You have to find a way to relate it to real life and what you see everyday. A spinning disk becomes a truck tire, a sound device becomes a sub woofer. Things that you can relate to.
I have yet to complete my senior year of studies at the University but I will be done by Spring 2011. I am working towards my first Bachelors Degree, BS in Physics and will continue with school after until I get my MS in Chemical Engineering. Physics and Chemistry have always come easy to me and I know that because of this I can ... read more

Education has been an integral part of my life. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in Business and Accounting and a MBA in Business and Accounting from the University of Phoenix. Most of my teaching experience has come from my volunteer assignments in religious activities, however, I was also a trainer for Select Health where I taught individuals concepts and applications applicable to the health insurance industry. As imagined, I have learned the appropriate rules in writing papers throughout my educational experience.
I do not believe there is one teaching style for every child. Therefore, my teaching method will vary depending on the needs of the individual. I do like to teach using visual aids, chalkboard, and scenarios. I also feel that positive reinforcement of successful accomplishments are critical in creating a strong foundation in learning. I absolutely love working with kids and teens. I believe that all children want to experience success, but each might define "success" a little bit differently. I am willing to take the time to find out what motivates each individual student and go the extra mile to help them. I am a firm believer in experiential education and try to relate what a student is learning in class to something they love, engaging and involving them in the process as much as possible. As a tutor, I do my best to make things fun while also making progress.
I recently finished a double-major in college and maintained a GPA of 3.75. I took many education courses throughout my college career in obtaining my degree in Childrens' Studies. I have helped tutor in biology, earth science, social studies, English, algebra, reading, and Spanish.

I want to help students question to find meaning in life. I want to help students learn which questions to ask so that their answers are founded in principle and not merely reactions against traditional authority or thought. The art of learning is a skilled art. The task of leading another to discovery is a weighty one. I take the time of my students seriously. I would not waste their time any more than I wish mine to be wasted. Passion drives my life and my teaching. I feel the literature. I feel language. I recognize the need to individualize the presentation to each student’s experiences and understandings if s/he is to discover the joy of learning.
As I finish a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in training and development, I realize that I want to continue my formal educational while sharing my love of learning. My prior formal education includes ... read more

A teacher should treat their students as consumers. As consumers those students need to have their needs and expectations met. Every student learns differently and expects the instructor to be the expert in the subject matter. Being that expert the instructor should have and show a passion for the subject that makes the students want to know more. Each student is a valuable member of the class and as such has valuable experience and opinions that can enrich the class. The instructor should provide ample opportunity for student questions and discussion. The educator’s role goes beyond delivering the curriculum. The instructor should make the learning relevant to real life experiences. The instructor should provide differentiated instruction, timely feedback, and should aid in the students’ development academically and professionally. Students should be aspired to be quality teachers a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since I was introduced to American Sign Language (ASL), I have been deeply fascinated in the language and its speakers. A year after my initial experience with ASL, I decided to create my own Bachelor's Degree at the University of Utah. I was able to design curriculum pertaining to my desired field of interest. The classes I took were mostly education related. I had several classes in education psychology, multi-cultural education, diversity and culture. My major emphasis was on language and more specifically, deaf culture. Last Spring I tutored a family in their home in Park City. Their daughter was a participant in the SLC Deaflympics this past winter and they wanted to learn how to sign. It was a wonderful experience. I am an extremely organized person and love to be creative. I enjoy writing and art in my spare time. I also enjoy helping students learn to communicate ... read more

I was first introduced to accounting by owning my own business. Then I was hired by an engineering company to update their bookkeeping method from paper to computer. I became proficient in troubleshooting discrepancies and providing users with solutions. I interfaced with Federal and State taxing agencies, banks, and lending institutions requiring reports and/or payments. I then moved on to a Software Development company as a Product Manager of accounting software being developed for internet use by accountants. I trained and answered questions, wrote newsletters, prepared marketing materials and taught at seminars. I became a mentor and troubleshooter for the software users.
I love teaching. Currently I am working with adults in debt management and financial counseling. Money management is critical to the survival of a family and easily sabotaged by impulse spending. I most e ... read more

I am a very versatile tutor who believes in adjusting my own teaching style to fit the particular learning style of my students. I am extremely patient, kind, and creative. My goal is to make learning relevant and relatable, because those qualities ensure that a subject is memorable and understandable. I believe that all students can succeed as long as they are shown how to use their inherent strengths and turn their supposed weaknesses to their best advantage.
For six years I have enjoyed a "love affair" with teaching. Beginning with two years as an elementary school tutor, I was able to gain experience in teaching all subjects, and specialized in reading for students with learning disabilities.
