A Little Bit About Me...

I have many years experience as an illustrator and graphic designer, with large and small advertising agencies in Los Angeles. I have taught sculpture to children with Cindy Jackson through Art Center College of Design's program, "Art Center for Kids". I have also held volunteer workshops for Children of the Night in Van Nuys, California. I have privately tutored as well, for portfolio development for high school students seeking admission to art schools. I paint and draw in weekly workshops, and have begun my MFA through Academy of Art in San Francisco's internet program. I was an academic tutor for the Student Learning Center at CSUC for two semesters, where I attained an advanced level tutoring certificate from the College Reading & Learning Association. My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion. This ensures that the desired cognitive skills and strategies are being learned.
