I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. I taught high school and middle school Spanish for two and half years at public schools, and completed my student teaching at an alternative school for juvenile criminals. I was an at home teacher for my school district when children were out for extended periods due to illness. I have completed additional continuing education in working with gifted and special needs children. I enjoy sharing my passion for learning with others and love to see the “light” come on when a student finally understands a concept. I believe making the information relevant to the student is important. I like to use humor and real-life examples to keep students engaged. As a child I loved to read and write. In High School I took the AP exams for both English Language and English Composition, scoring a 4 and a 5. It was a natural choice for me to major in English when I started my college career. While working on my degree I already knew I wanted to teach, so I began tutoring.
