College Algebra is one of my top subjects!

I prefer to use materials that students have been given in their classroom (textbooks, homework, study guides, notes) and provide additional explanation and examples. I always ask students which areas they would like to go over most importantly. I ask them to try an example problem with me, and then one without me until they feel confident in their ability to solve that type of math problem and its concepts.

I believe that everybody can learn and comprehend math. Math is an intimidating subject for most people, so my goal as a teacher is to show my students that it is more like a puzzle. With all puzzles, you just need to know the steps to solving it in order to be successful, and my job is to teach these steps. It bothers me when people say how much they hate math, so when I’m working with students, my goal is to make my students never feel intimidated. Practice, practice, practice. Math is not learned by watching, it is learned by doing. Some types of problems can be learned after only a few examples, others take much more time and patience. My role as a tutor is help guide students through a problem while doing as little of the actual calculations as possible. I try to make my students see that many problems, while different in appearance, are actually the same as ones they've already solved before.
