My comments on tutoring Life Science : Experienced in teaching life science to several different levels. Have a strong grip on the natural surroundings and their effects on biological and physical interactions.

I prefer to keep students excited about what they are supposed to be learning. Naturally I have devoted my career to learning the facts and concepts that I am supposed to relay, so I will be excited, and I want them to be excited. In general however I tend to back up and work on the material that the student already is familiar and comfortable with. Once some review on the known material has been done I like to begin moving toward the material that is currently being reviewed. The length of time spent in the "review phase" is completely dependent on the student's current situation. Many of the things in life that we don't "get" are things we don't understand. When teaching, I try to break things down and simplify them so they can be easily understood. Often the kids in my class are those who do not like to be challenged, so I incorporate a lot of questions to provoke thinking and problem solving on their own. Since repetition is a key component to learning, I review a lot which requires patience but pays great dividends in the long run.
