I believe in helping students learn chess in a straight-forward manner. I teach the importance of chess strategy using the 5 most important chess principles. This teaches the student to learn how to think in chess, make great moves, figure out what the opponent is trying to do and prevent them from doing it. I teach how to come up with and execute a plan, openings, tactics, king safety, and much much more.
I have been playing chess for 26 years and teaching chess for over 10 years now. I've played in several competitive tournaments and placed very well in most of them including 1st place in the Magic City Classic Reserve Section and I placed 2nd in the 41st Annual World open 1400 section. A Little Bit About Me...

A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. I started teaching these classes roughly six (6) months ago on a volunteer basis, and the classes have been very well received thus far. The first class is entitled "Introduction to Banking", and teaches the fundamentals of personal banking (how to open a checking account, how to write a check, etc.). In my opinion my teaching would have to be considered unique. Usually I teach math in laymans terms and use analogie that students can relate to. Once the student understands the concepts I can then express the same ideas in the more rigorous mathematical terms. I also teach so that the student becomes active in his or her learning experience. I try to help the student to realize that math is not as difficult as it is made out to be. Over the course of my tutoring career I have employed a strategy of helping the student to understand more of the mechanics of mathematics and depend less on shortcuts that do not foster learning or, even worse, do not work. I would say that I have a great deal of patience and understanding.
