My comments on tutoring Hearing Impaired : I am a certified Sign Language interpreter and have interpreted for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students of all ages for the last 14 years. As part of my job description, I was a tutor to these same students. For the last 3 years, I had to take on the role of teaching to a middle school aged Deaf student due to lack of Deaf Education teachers for most of his academic day. I also have experience with Deaf and H of H students that had other disabilities such as: Low cognitive Ability, Blindness, Charge syndrome, Autism, Obstinate Defiance Disorder and Emotional Disability. I also am able to tutor High School and College students who need help learning American Sign Language.

I use more of a visual approach to teaching. I will draw, create visuals or use manipulatives - whatever it takes to help a student understand.
I love to see students "Get it!" when I tutor. I am patient, tenacious and I don't give up until a student understands! One of my areas of expertise is creating visual materials for students who are visual learners. I will draw, use manipulatives and anything else it takes to explain a concept. I worked for 14 years as an interpreter/tutor for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and tutor to hearing students as well. Hands-on with visuals and manipulatives. Kids learn by doing and actively engaging themselves in learning. This is a good picture of my teaching style. I love teaching children with a robust flavor of learning. Make it fun, and children usually will remember how they have learned a new skill. I taught fifth grade for many years and was always the testing grade for the state of Oklahoma. I have many years of experience in preparing students for testing.

I lived in Chile for almost two consecutive years, and studied in Costa Rica for a short time. My B.A. is in Anthropology and Spanish, and my M.S. is in International Studies.
