A Little Bit About Me...

As a young child I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I have worked hard to to get my degree and have overcome many challenges. I know that it is possible for all the achieve their goals if they are given the opportunity to be taught in ways which they best learn. I personally had to discover my own learning style. Now I work to help others reach their potential by helping them discover their learning style. As a tutor I can only explain my own style is that of my students. I will work hard to adapt my own ways to benefit those who I am privileged to teach.

I enjoy teaching and helping other students understand difficult material. I love to use diagrams and other visual teaching tools. Over the five years with the organization I have worked with at risk students that were diagnosed with mental diagnosis. While working with these students I was able to assist them in developing life skills, English, and mathematics. Finally, I have earned a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, which has assisted me with interpersonal skills and the ability to problem solve effectively in order to meet the needs of students that I have worked with and to meet the needs of the company.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love learning math and science and I enjoy sharing the same love of learning with my students. I like seeing the look on their face when they really get it! Students requiring tutoring are sometimes in academic distress and have anxiety therefore I have a more easy going and patient style of tutoring than most. I believe I'm an effective tutor because I remember the exact same difficulties and questions I had as a student and can relate to their frustration. Most people as well as myself are visual learners thus I teach by working several examples and gradually increasing the difficulty at a pace set by the student. I would rather spend a whole tutoring session working a few examples the student completely understands as opposed to several problems with no understanding. The goal is to slowly establish a pattern of success with simpler work then before the student realizes it they're o ... read more

I learned through visual aid. So, I guess I would lean towards this style of teaching. However, if a student learns better with audio aid then I would be willing to combine the two methods to better educate the student. My goal is to provide the best education possible and to suceed in that is to have great communication and alittle fun doing the work that is expected.
I have not taught anyone or tutored anyone for money. However, I would like to have the oppitunity to be able to tutor children or young adults on their way of the journey of life. I too was tutored going through school and not just once. I attended Sylvin Learning Center every other year since sixth grade. It helped me understand the areas that I didnt and excel in the areas I did. I would like to give thas opportunity to someone else.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style has evolved somewhat since then. I mostly give mini-lectures immediately followed by student problem solving work. I then get input from the students on how to solve a problem, and then show them the way I did it. We also debate the different ways of approaching the problem. I do stress, as much as possible, the development of critical thinking skills. I find that a key skill here is that the student should try and develop the patience and fortitude to struggle with understanding complex chemical principles (easier said than done?).
Having struggled through four years of attempting to learn chemistry at the undergraduate level, listening to “inarticulate though erudite” lectures on various topics in chemistry in the dank, damp, hallowed halls of the University of Paisley, I was determined to redress the balance in favor of the student. My ideas on education have ... read more

Children have the ability to learn in a variety of ways. I learn the appropiate way to aide a student in their studies by observing their technique of solving a problem and helping them explore the problem. I show students how to break down the problem in various ways to help them better understand it. Some students need to work with a tutor on several problems; others may need a song or visual representations to help them understand a problem. Sometimes, every type of learning needs to be used to help a students understand. I am patient and understanding of the needs of a students and their tutoring needs.
While at Hampton University, I obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry and maintained a 3.96 GPA. I have taken math courses in pre-calculus I&II, calculus I,II,&III, and Statistics. I have tutored and taught students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program in Blade ... read more
