I believe that an open dialogue is a teacher's most needed resource. Any child needs to feel as though he or she can express concerns or apprehensions without the fear of feeling embarrassed or stupid. I truly believe that there is no such thing as a stupid question. Teaching should, of course, relay necessary information, but it should also foster a student's drive to succeed, as well as the knowledge that any goal can be reached through perserverance. My college studies have been in a variety of fields with the most concentration in the arts and social sciences. At the University Center for Developmental Disabilities I have gained one-on-one experience with children with autism and have learned and employed several techniques used in the Operant Conditioning model. As a Teacher Assistant, I have the responsibilities of setting goals, creating objectives for weekly sessions, and tracking and recording weekly progress. Such goals include, increasing expressive communication, decreasing specific inappropriate behaviors unique to each child, and improving academic skills such as reading, mathematics, and problem solving.

Over the past 4 years, I've worked at the Colton Community services recreatioon depatrment. As an employee I've worked in Drop-In Recreation, in which I provide my assistance in helping the children do homework and tutor them as they needed. fot the past year and a half, we've started a new program called Homework help, which is to focus more on helping the students one on one with homwwork, reading, math, projects, etc. I am currently working on getting my AA in Child Devolpment to continue my drive to become a teacher.
