I worked for over 2 years as a study session leader for various engineering courses while getting my B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I also tutored several students in engineering classes at the college level. I have experience working with elementary through high school students as well. I have a passion for helping people, and nothing satifies me more than helping a person understand a concept and succeed in his or her class. I teach using a lot of examples and incorporating the concepts into the example problems so that the student can see how the examples are based on the concepts. As a recent college graduate, I was motivated to study Physics because I find the fundamental nature of the physical world fascinating. In addition to my B.S. in Physics, I also minored in Religious Studies and this course of study has enabled me to understand and communicate with people from a variety of different backgrounds. When I wasn’t in class I spent nearly 3 years doing particle physics research for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, which I would work at in Geneva Switzerland during the summer. During my four years at college I have tutored students from a variety of different skill levels in several different physics courses, including Classical Mechanics, Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, and the Philosophy of Physics. Every student has a unique skill level and learning style, and I believe tutoring is an opportunity for me to help that student learn in his or her own unique way.

I have taught Medical Neuroanatomy to medical students at the University of Iowa Medical School. Students were directed in dissecting and identifying parts of the human brain. This occurred in small groups of five or six students. I also taught Molecular Neurobiology at Friday Harbor Laboratories to graduate students who came from around the world to take the course. This involved all parts of a laboratory class including lectures, small group discussions, and one-on-one teaching. I have also tutored numerous undergraduates in a variety of math and science areas. My teaching style varies depending on the student. Perhaps my biggest asset is empathy as I can easily tell when a student (or group) gets it. I enjoy teaching children from third grade and up. I am very patient, and easy-going. My goal is get students to see real world applications for each subject I tutor. I teach in an auditory-visual way, to provide the basics necessary for students to reach their potential. I relate to children on their level, and help them to see new ways to look at their work. I always work to make a difference in all of my student's lives. I became interested in teaching after graduating with my bachelor degree in Broadcast Comm. Arts.
