My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas. I've been tutoring since high schools in a wide range of subjects, such as latin, algebra II, and biology. The skills you use to teach yourself the material can be directly applied to someone else, especially when you find something does not click at first. I have a number of mnemonics for helping my tutees retain the material they've spent time learning. In college I don't tutor professionally because of time constraints, but I help other students understand problems they may be having difficulty with.
