My teaching style is 90 % hands on activities, where I look for ways to connect the hard core topics with the student ,whether it is through their environment, cultural or any topic of interest so the student can relate to the topic and start to familiarize with the topic. Student after that will have to use the concepts ,tools and material of research provided by the teacher to excel or master the topic on his own. Finally ,student and teacher will engage in communicative activities where student will demonstrate master of topic . I have worked for the past 14 years in the behavioral health care field. I have served as a mentor to a youth with behavioral/emotional issues. I hold a BA of Education with a minor in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education. I also hold an MSEd in Education- Counseling. I hold a current Nebraska teaching certificate and have worked with youth of all ages. I enjoy teaching and helping youth learn. My philosophy is that all children can learn if provided the opportunity and resources that fit their learning style. I believe in positive reinforcement and praise. Children learn in many different ways, and it is an educators role to provide opportunities for children to learn through various methods. I would say my teaching style is very thorough and repetitive. Repetition is what truly sticks information into student’s minds, despite its annoying tendencies. My middle school class would frequently complain that we had already covered something; but their test scores showed that it paid off in the long run! I am a kinesthetic learner and understand how everyone has different learning styles so I incorporate all styles when teaching a lesson. I include reading, verbal, visual and hands on learning when possible. When learning or teaching math I feel the more problems you can do the better. I started college with the intention of becoming an elementary school teacher. I completed all coursework at Chadron State College Chadron, NE with the exception of my professional semester. I graduated college in the summer of 1985 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Guidance/Counseling and the other in Recreation. I worked as a certified teacher in the state of Florida in an alternative school for emotionally disturbed/behavior disordered boys. I have 4 children and I have home schooled all of them to varying degrees. Currently I am home schooling my youngest two children and they are in the 11th grade. I enjoy teaching all subjects but am partial to mathematics, history and grammar. I love learning and consider myself a life-long student. I am a firm believer in getting a quality education.
