I truly enjoy working with students of all ages. It doesn't matter what they don't know because I believe anyone can be taught anything, at least as long as you have the right teacher and materials at your disposal. I believe students are like little sponges. They're taking in everything around them. Obviously, if you fill their heads with garbage, they will learn garbage. However, if you fill their heads with quality information, you explain it in a way that they understand, and you make it fun for them to learn, then they will learn everything you're trying to teach. There are thousands of educators, but only a few real teachers who can get a message across in such a way that the student doesn't just do the work, they UNDERSTAND what they're doing and why. As far as I'm concerned, if a student doesn't learn something, it's not because he didn't try. It's because I failed to teach him i ... read more

I left the hospitality industry after 10 years to pursue teaching so that could use my gift of patience and determination to mold young minds and help them learn. I quickly became a long term substitute and become attached several to children with learning disabilities. After working on specific studying skills, and social skills with family where possible, I was able to increase standardized testing score as much as 33% in several students. As a substitute teacher, I have worked and taught with all ages of students from 5-13 in all academic areas for extended periods of time since 2007.

I believe I have a good mental connection with children. Teaching Math is not just about solving problems, using specific methods, equations & formulas that the student has to memorize, and then will forget after a couple days. It's about understanding the problems, it's about knowing where the problem is, and how to solve it using basic Math knowledge and some axioms, step by step, even reinventing the answer, if possible. Teaching Spanish is a lot different, its more methodical, I use some mnemonic "tricks" for the kids & adults to remember the important words & translations.
My best skill is Math, I have always been proficient at it. As an Engineer, I have had the opportunity to learn more and take advantage of this skill, and I want to share it, I love teaching. I am also a member of MENSA. I have been tutoring children and adults since 1999, teaching Math, Physics & Spanish. ... read more

In an evaluation after an observation of one of my history classes, a colleague of mine quoted that "it was evident from the beginning that the students were at ease, and yet extremely focused." My teaching style reflects the attitude that students must be comfortable in their surroundings first in order to be able to focus their energies for the day's work. I believe deeply in learning to both give and receive constructive criticism, from peers and superiors alike. My students would often critique their own work, in addition to others in the class. Although it could be a challenge to work some of the more reticent out of their shells, it proved effective in the long run giving them the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the academic world.

Every child is different, but one thing all children need is some patience and motivation that they can do it. I am easy going and have great qualities to be there for children like I am for my own. I love to help children and anyone who needs help.
I have a degree in Criminal Justice. I have always been a good student. I have never directly taught children, but I have 2 kids who I help everyday with their homework and they are in junior high and are in all advanced classes. Since I feel that I am a great motivator and know how to study for certain things, I show my kids the encouragement they need and now I feel I can offer this to other kids as well. I have great grammer skills and can help with studying as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have, for the most part of my adult life, been involved with teaching children in one way or another. I have been a baseball, basketball and soccer coach. I have always wanted to tutor children because I truly enjoy watching a child's eye's light up, when they have finally grasped a concept they thought was impossible for them to understand. I currently teach at a charter school in Davenport. As in all my other teaching experiences, I believe it is important for the child to feel comfortable learning new things, and I believe that I have the necessary abilities to relate to the children I am working with.
Every child deserves to be educated. I love making a difference in a child's life! And I thoroughly enjoy being a teacher!

I believe that all students can learn but in different styles. I believe that it is very important to use a variety of teaching styles in order to reach all of your students. I believe that many factors affect a child's ability to learn and that it is the responsibility of the child, teacher, and parent to ensure the success of the student. In an ever increasing age of technology I believe in integrating the use of the computer and other technological devices while teaching.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been told by my first year teaching mentor that my style of teaching is "unconventional". Although I majored in English, I had a concentration in creative writing and a minor in visual arts. I think of writing as an art, and so I use creative methods in the classroom to teach students. I believe our youth's attention span is getting shorter and shorter due to television/media and modern day technologies. As a teacher, it is imperative that you hold the child's interest. I believe in incorporating these technologies into the classroom, and relating material in the easiest terms and to things they already know. There is nothing worse than feeling like you are "stupid" when you cannot understand what the teacher is saying or cannot relate to it. The best learning happens when students do not even realize they are learning. That is the foundation for my style of teaching. I love teach ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Each child learns in different ways, and as a Tudor/teacher it is my responsibility to discover the method of teaching that matches a child’s way of learning. I am patient, understanding and provide a constructive approach to learning. All children have the potential of learning; some simply require a different method and approach to grasp the information and it is my duty to provide such approach.
