Natalie G. - Bakersfield, CA 93314 (29.5 mi) - Elementary Grammar Tutor - $22.50/hr.
As a Liberal Studies major pursuing a multi-subject credential, I seek jobs where I can apply the skills I have learned and furthermore, gain experience that will help me as a future teacher. I have a number of experiences working with children and their parents. At Cal Poly and CSUB, I have had the opportunity to work directly with students in various elementary schools and activities. Furthermore, I have tutored for after school programs, and privately for two families with children in Grades K-9. My dedication and organization help me perform to the best of my ability and lead students to success. I find it of the utmost importance to create a safe and effective learning environment. I have learned to work with a diverse group of students and how to address individual needs, ethically and confidentially. However, I am a strong believer that none of these skills would be valuable

Chloe B. - Bakersfield, CA 93311 (37.3 mi) - Elementary Grammar Tutor - $15.00/hr.
Hello! I have recently completed my bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies to teach elementary-level students! Now I am excited to use what I have learned and help students who may need guidance with their homework. I have my CBEST credential in the state of California and I have volunteered several hours in a Kindergarten classroom. In that class assisted the teacher with various tasks such as helping the children with their in-class work, taking students to the cafeteria and explaining new ideas to students in different groups. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
I believe teaching is a team effort between the student and teacher. When I teach I want my student to feel comfortable discussing concepts with me and opening up about the material at hand. We will navigate new ideas together and overcome any barriers in the way! My job

I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. Or if the page has picture on it, just cross them out if subtracting, or draw more if adding. I was an Instructi
